Nobel winner Malala visits hometown in Pakistan for first time since shooting
By Asif Shahzad and Jibran Ahmad MINGORA, Pakistan (Reuters) - Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai visited her birthplace in Pakistan's Swat Valley on Saturday, bursting into tears as she entered her childhood home for the first time since a Taliban gunman shot her in 2012. The 20-year-old told a family friend she planned to return home after completing her education at Oxford, where she is reading for a degree in politics, philosophy and economics. Roads were blocked off in the town of Mingora as Yousafzai, known universally by her first name, flew in by military helicopter with her parents and brother.

Boat carrying Rohingya stops on Thai island: official
A boat carrying dozens of Rohingya refugees trying to reach Malaysia briefly stopped on a Thai island, an official said Sunday, as fears grow about overcrowded camps for the stateless minority fleeing violence in Myanmar. Nearly 700,000 Rohingya Muslims have sought shelter in southern Bangladesh since Myanmar launched a brutal crackdown on insurgents in August that the US and UN have called ethnic cleansing. An agreement to repatriate Rohingya from Bangladesh to Myanmar's Rakhine state has yet to see a single refugee returned.

South Korea Is Deploying Hyper-Precise Missiles to Protect Seoul from North Korea

North Korea maintain hundreds of long-range Koksan 170-millimeter self-propelled guns, and 240- and 300-millimeter multiple rocket launchers capable of striking Seoul.

Abandoned death trap funeral home
The abandoned Moulton and Kyle Funeral Home in Jacksonville, Fla., which is more than 150 years old, was left to rot, with the premises eerily strewn with open caskets, a hearse and embalming chemicals. Much like the corpses that were laid to rest, the remains of this building too are slowly decomposing and decaying. Black mold has engulfed the walls, and chipped tiles from the collapsed ceilings cover many of the floors. See more news-related photo galleries and follow us on Yahoo News Photo Twitter and Tumblr. Two members of the US-led anti-jihadist coalition -- an American and a Briton -- were killed by an improvised explosive device in the northern Syrian city of Manbij, US and British officials said Friday. Five other coalition service personnel were wounded, the Pentagon said. "Two coalition personnel were killed and five were wounded by an improvised explosive device in Syria" at around midnight (2100 GMT), the coalition said in a statement which gave no further details about the victims.

US Army veteran Hector Barajas to return home more than a decade after he was deported to Mexico
Eight years after he was last deported to Mexico, a US army veteran is returning to California. A pardon last year from Governor Jerry Brown cleared the way for Hector Barajas, who was living in Tijuana, to secure citizenship. “Oh my god, this is great”, Mr Barajas said in a Facebook video during which he opened a document confirming the decision while wearing a uniform bristling with medals.

Turkey says France could become 'target' for backing Syria Kurds
By Tuvan Gumrukcu ANKARA (Reuters) - Turkey said on Friday that a French pledge to help stabilize a region of northern Syria controlled by Kurdish-dominated forces amounted to support for terrorism and could make France a "target of Turkey". French backing for the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), spearheaded by the Kurdish YPG militia, has angered Ankara at a time when it is fighting the YPG in northern Syria and considers it a terrorist organization. President Tayyip Erdogan said France had taken a "completely wrong approach" on Syria, adding that he exchanged heated words with his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, last week.

British officials search inbound plane from Moscow
Britain said Saturday that border officials had searched an incoming Aeroflot plane, a move Russia called an act of "blatant provocation" in the ongoing diplomatic spat between London and Moscow. Britain said it conducts routine checks on aircraft to protect the UK from organised crime and people attempting to bring harmful substances into the country. The Russian embassy in London said Friday's search on a scheduled plane arriving from Moscow at London Heathrow Airport was "extraordinary".
