Chemical Weapons Mystery: Did Assad Attack with Chlorine (and Sarin)?
On April 7, images and video footage of dozens of dead Syrian children and adults foaming at the mouths, or injured and struggling to breathe, once again began circulating around the world. The latest chemical-weapon attack, targeting the rebel-held suburb of Douma east of Damascus, reportedly caused at least forty-two deaths and injured five hundred, though some sources claim seventy deaths or more. The Violations Documentation Center, a human-rights monitoring group, has published a timeline of the events on April 7, beginning at noon with a guided-missile strike and barrel-bomb attack on a Red Crescent center in Douma, which destroyed its last remaining ambulances.

Elon Musk admits robots are slowing down Tesla production – and says humans are the answer
Elon Musk has said that “excessive automation” is partly to blame for the serious backlog in production of Tesla cars, noting that human beings can in some situations do a better job. Mr Musk has come under fierce criticism for the delays facing his Model 3 sedan. “Yes, excessive automation at Tesla was a mistake,” he said. “To be precise, my mistake. Humans are underrated.” Caught in what Mr Musk has called “manufacturing hell”, the electric car firm has failed to hit its weekly production target of 2,500 Model 3 vehicles in the first quarter of 2018, fostering doubt within the industry that Tesla will be able to hit its 5,000-a-week target in three months time. “We had this crazy, complex network of conveyor belts. And it was not working, so we got rid of that whole thing," he said. "We got complacent about some of the things that we felt were our core technology. “We put too much new technology into the Model 3 all at once. This should have been staged." In February Elon Musk sent a red Tesla into space Credit: SpaceX Mr Musk, on a tour of the factory for CBS News, admitted that he sometimes slept at the factory when he was overwhelmed with work, and said the criticism was affecting him. "When things get really intense, I don't have time to go home and shower and change, so I just sleep here," the tech billionaire said. "Last time I was here, I actually slept literally on the floor, because the couch was too narrow." In the past month, Tesla has issued a voluntary recall of 123,000 of its older Model S vehicles, dealt with a fatal crash of a vehicle equipped with its semi-autonomous driving system and suffered a downgrade of its credit status. But Mr Musk said his immediate priority was solving production delays for the company's Model 3 sedan. "I'm definitely under stress, so if I seem like I'm not under stress then I'm going to be clear, I'm definitely under stress," he said.

Israel says new Gaza tunnel foiled, lifts veil on detection lab
By Dan Williams JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israel said on Sunday it destroyed a guerrilla tunnel from the Gaza Strip and gave rare details on a classified military laboratory spearheading efforts to foil the cross-border digs. Palestinian gunmen used tunnels to blindside Israeli forces during the 2014 Gaza war. Israel has since been developing detection technologies and laying down an underground frontier wall which, it says, will end the Gaza tunnel threat by 2019.

Starbucks apologises as outrage grows at arrest of two black men while they waited for friend
Starbucks has apologised to two black men who were arrested while waiting for a friend at one of its branches in Philadelphia. Cellphone footage shows the pair being placed in handcuffs and led quietly from the store while perplexed onlookers can be heard saying they had done nothing wrong. An apology issued at the weekend was not enough to prevent demonstrators gathering to highlight Thursday incident and what they said was yet another example of how black people are still treated as second-class citizens in America. It is an embarrassing episode to a coffee chain that styles itself as a hang-out for people to meet and linger. Kevin Johnson, Starbucks chief executive, described the video as "hard to watch" and the arrests as a "reprehensible outcome". We apologize to the two individuals and our customers for what took place at our Philadelphia store on Thursday. pic.twitter.com/suUsytXHks— Starbucks Coffee (@Starbucks) April 14, 2018 "Our store manager never intended for these men to be arrested and this should never have escalated as it did," he said in a statement, adding that he wanted to apologise personally to the two men although he declined to explain why the actions escalated so quickly. @Starbucks The police were called because these men hadn’t ordered anything. They were waiting for a friend to show up, who did as they were taken out in handcuffs for doing nothing. All the other white ppl are wondering why it’s never happened to us when we do the same thing. pic.twitter.com/0U4Pzs55Ci— Melissa DePino (@missydepino) April 12, 2018 Police said they received a 911 complaint of trespassing and responding officers were told the two men had asked to use the lavatory without making a purchase. Richard Ross, police commissioner, said the men said they were waiting for a friend and refused to leave. A Starbucks spokesman said the store had a policy of only allowing customers to use the lavatories. Demonstrators at the Philadelphia branch on Sunday Credit: Getty Images The local district attorney's office said the men were released after Starbucks declined to press charges. Even so, the arrests caused outrage around the US as details spread across social media. The Rev Jeffrey Jordan led a crowd of protesters outside the Philadelphia branch in chants of "I am somebody, and I demand equality now." Schultz puff "It is a shame that (in) the year 2018 we're still putting up with this mess," he said. "This country was built on the backs of black and brown people and now Starbucks is going to treat us like we're second class." Robert Passikoff, the president of Brand Keys, a New York-based consulting firm that researches brand loyalty, said the fiasco illustrated the dilemma faced by Starbucks as it tried to be both a business and a modern kind of community centre. "Companies have gone out of their way to establish the kind of emotional bonds and product delivery that they think is going to build engagement and loyalty and, ultimately, profits," he said. "But today the consumer decides what is right."
